Good morning!! Ahh, Sunday.
If you read my post from yesterday, you'll probably remember my brief mention of my plan to enjoy a muffin this morning as a treat. I changed my mind. Getting the muffin would involve leaving the apartment which, on another cool rainy day, is not worth it. This is new behavior for someone who would brave any element to answer a craving, so I acknowledge my success - YES!
I had my regular oat bran again but what I did choose was to have a little bit of REAL BUTTER on it as opposed to fake butter. In case you don't know (lucky ones), there is something called "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" and it is a low/no calorie SPRAY. Can you imagine? Oye. Blech. Yet, I use it. I borderline abuse it actually and trust me, I promise I plan to give it up eventually but right now I still "eat" it -- does it even count as food?
My point?! It got me thinking about what is REAL versus FAKE in my life and in this world!! :) One of my friends said to me after I stopped seeing the man I was dating that now I'm "creating space to find the REAL THING (my caps)". It's not to say that what I shared with this last man I was seeing wasn't real. It was. It was its own 'real thing' especially because he was/is someone who definitely keeps it real but in terms of it being the Real Thing, nope, that it wasn't.
Let's bring in the heavy lifters this morning -- Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrel sing this duet "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" which will melt your heart. Whether you're single or in a relationship, here's your chance to do a little positive attraction work. Close your eyes and listen to this song (clip pasted below) and just get into the feeling of being with your true love right now -- the Real Thing and you've found each other, YES!

And, if you have no idea who Marvin or Tammi are (recognizing I have some readers who are in their early 20's, omg) then here is a version done with Beyonce and Justin Timberlake that's not half bad!! :)

We go around all the time asking people, "How are you?" and telling people, "Good, thanks, how are you?" but doesn't this just make you craaaaaave a real conversation where you can tell someone how you REALLY are and listen fully to how they are REALLY feeling? I know I rely fully on those kinds of deeper connections in order to feel the strength and support I need to be going about my business.
Patricia Moreno, the founder and creator of the intenSati practice (in case you are new to this practice or blog, visit www.satilife.com for more info!), told me and a group of intenSati Leaders that we are spiritual leaders not cheerleaders, and that leadership comes from a real and honest place. Yes, yes, yes! I am learning to use my intro at the beginning of class to share exactly where I'm at (with feeling!) and where I want to go -- those are always my best classes. If I'm feeling good I will go for great or deeper appreciating. If I'm on the lower side of the spectrum, I can choose acceptance or intend a gradual shift up the emotional scale.
For myself, I define "spiritual leader' as one who connects with, uplifts and helps heal people's spirits. Ultimately, we are all spiritual leaders if we choose to be! 100% believe:
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
-Teilhard de Chardin (French Geologist, Priest, Philosopher and Mystic, 1881-1955)
So, who and what are the "real things" in your life? From a nutrition standpoint, are you eating real food or a diet heavy on fake stuff (a la spray butter)? In your relationships, who are you engaging with and do you each give each other the FREEDOM to be real and authentic? Are you going for the Real Thing when it comes to love or are you settling for something that is not fulfilling all your healthy needs and desires? Same thing goes for creating meaningful work, right?! IT IS ALL CONNECTED!! :)
Closing thought: I welcome real and authentic people and experiences into my life today. I am connected to my spirit and enjoy connecting with other people on this level!
Tomorrow, Monday, I am teaching at 7AM (Pk/33rd) and 6:30PM (Col Cir) and have guest passes available for both classes!
Thank you and wishing you a beautiful and healthy day!!
